How To Install DirectAdmin on AlmaLinux 8

Install DirectAdmin on AlmaLinux 8

In this tutorial, we will show you how to install DirectAdmin on AlmaLinux 8. For those of you who didn’t know, DirectAdmin is an alternative control panel to cPanel/WHM, providing a graphical interface and automation tools to simplify server and account management. Features include E-mail, FTP, DNS and web management, Statistics, Apache configuration, User and reseller management, and more.

This article assumes you have at least basic knowledge of Linux, know how to use the shell, and most importantly, you host your site on your own VPS. The installation is quite simple and assumes you are running in the root account, if not you may need to add ‘sudo‘ to the commands to get root privileges. I will show you through the step-by-step installation of the DirectAdmin on an AlmaLinux 8. You can follow the same instructions for RHEL and CentOS systems.

Prerequisites

  • A server running one of the following operating systems: AlmaLinux 8, RHEL, CentOS, or Rocky Linux 8
  • It’s recommended that you use a fresh OS install to prevent any potential issues
  • A non-root sudo user or access to the root user. We recommend acting as a non-root sudo user, however, you can harm your system if you’re not careful when acting as the root.

Install DirectAdmin on AlmaLinux / RHEL / CentOS

Step 1. First, let’s start by ensuring your system is up-to-date.

sudo dnf update
sudo dnf install epel-release

Step 2. Install DirectAdmin on AlmaLinux 8.

Now we run the following command to download and install the DirectAdmin installation script:

bash <(curl -Ss https://www.directadmin.com/setup.sh || wget -O - https://www.directadmin.com/setup.sh) auto

Important: The hostname should not be the same as the primary domain name. e.g. idroot.us is not a good hostname, whereas server.idroot.us is. Having the same host/main domain name will cause e-mail and FTP problems. Also, please make sure the hostname resolves once you set up DNS.

Step 3. Accessing DirectAdmin Web Interface.

DirectAdmin will be available on HTTPS port 80 by default. Open your favorite browser and navigate to http://your-domain.com/2222 or http://your-server-ip/2222. If you are using a firewall, please open port 2222 to enable access to the control panel.
