How To Install Microsoft Teams on Fedora 35

Install Microsoft Teams on Fedora 35

In this tutorial, we will show you how to install Microsoft Teams on Fedora 35. For those of you who didn’t know, Microsoft Teams is a proprietary communication platform developed by Microsoft, and it is part of the Microsoft 365 suite. It offers chat, videoconferencing, file storage, and application integration. One of the biggest benefits of Microsoft Teams is that it’s a cross-platform tool, available for Windows, Linux, macOS, iOS, Android, and Web.

This article assumes you have at least basic knowledge of Linux, know how to use the shell, and most importantly, you host your site on your own VPS. The installation is quite simple and assumes you are running in the root account, if not you may need to add ‘sudo‘ to the commands to get root privileges. I will show you the step-by-step installation of the Microsoft Teams on a Fedora 35.

Prerequisites

  • A server running one of the following operating systems: Fedora 35.
  • It’s recommended that you use a fresh OS install to prevent any potential issues.
  • A non-root sudo user or access to the root user. We recommend acting as a non-root sudo user, however, as you can harm your system if you’re not careful when acting as the root.

Install Microsoft Teams on Fedora 35

Step 1. Before proceeding, update your Fedora operating system to make sure all existing packages are up to date. Use this command to update the server packages:

sudo dnf upgrade
sudo dnf update

Step 2. Installing Microsoft Teams on Fedora 35.

By default, Microsoft Teams is not available on Fedora 35 base repository. Now we add the Microsoft Teams repository to your Fedora system:

sudo tee /etc/yum.repos.d/msteams.repo << EOF
[msteams]
name=Microsoft Teams
baseurl=https://packages.microsoft.com/yumrepos/ms-teams
enabled=1
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=https://packages.microsoft.com/keys/microsoft.asc
EOF

Next, import the GPG key:

sudo rpm --import https://packages.microsoft.com/keys/microsoft.asc

After that, update the repository packages and install Microsoft Teams using the following command below:

sudo dnf update
sudo dnf install teams

Step 3. Accessing Microsoft Teams on Fedora.

Once successfully installed, now launch it by going to Activities -> search for Microsoft Teams or running the teams command in the terminal. The app will ask you to log into your account. Enter the credentials to gain access to the Teams’ main functionality.

Congratulations! You have successfully installed Microsoft Teams. Thanks for using this tutorial for installing the Microsoft Teams on your Fedora 35 system. For additional help or useful information, we recommend you check the official Microsoft Teams website.
