In this tutorial, we will show you how to install OneDrive on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. For those of you who didn’t know, Microsoft’s OneDrive is one of the most popular cloud storage service platforms offered by Microsoft, similar to Dropbox, and Google Drive. In the software market and it is an obvious choice for companies and customers who frequently use Microsoft Office programs like Excel and Word. We will learn some of the benefits here.

Prerequisites

  • A server running one of the following operating systems: Ubuntu 20.04, 18.04, 16.04, and any other Debian-based distribution like Linux Mint.

  • A non-root sudo user or access to the root user. We recommend acting as a non-root sudo user, however, as you can harm your system if you’re not careful when acting as the root.

Install OneDrive on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Focal Fossa

Step 1. First, make sure that all your system packages are up-to-date by running the following apt commands in the terminal.

sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade

Step 2. Installing OneDrive on Ubuntu 20.04.

Now we add the OneDrive PPA repository to your system:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yann1ck/onedrive

Then, run the following command below to install it:

sudo apt install onedrive

Step 3. Accessing OneDrive on Ubuntu.

Once complete installation, run the OneDrive application using the following command below:

onedrive

When you run it for the first time, the terminal where you run ‘onedrive‘ shows a message about authorizing this app by visiting a link. Copy the link shown in the terminal and paste it into a web browser. After logging in to your Microsoft account you should see a page asking you if you want to let this application access your information – click Yes.

After authorization, you can perform a sync of your cloud OneDrive files to your local disk. Run the following command:

onedrive --synchronize
