In this tutorial, we will show you how to install TeamViewer on AlmaLinux 8. For those of you who didn’t know, TeamViewer is remote assistance software that enables desktop screens to be shared between two computers. With TeamViewer, you can control computer systems running Linux, Windows, and Mac OS remotely as if you were sitting right in front of that system. The program is available in three editions Business, Corporate, and Premium.
This article assumes you have at least basic knowledge of Linux, know how to use the shell, and most importantly, you host your site on your own VPS. The installation is quite simple and assumes you are running in the root account, if not you may need to add ‘sudo
‘ to the commands to get root privileges. I will show you the step-by-step installation of TeamViewer remote desktop access on an AlmaLinux 8. You can follow the same instructions for Rocky Linux.
Prerequisites
- A server running one of the following operating systems: AlmaLinux 8, CentOS, or Rocky Linux 8.
- It’s recommended that you use a fresh OS install to prevent any potential issues.
- An active internet connection.
- A
non-root sudo user
or access to theroot user
. We recommend acting as anon-root sudo user
, however, as you can harm your system if you’re not careful when acting as the root.
Install TeamViewer on AlmaLinux 8
Step 1. First, let’s start by ensuring your system is up-to-date.
sudo dnf update sudo dnf install epel-release
Step 2. Installing TeamViewer on AlmaLinux 8.
By default, TeamViewer is not available on the AlmaLinux AppStream repository. Now we download TeamViewer installer packages from the official website:
wget https://download.teamviewer.com/download/linux/teamviewer.x86_64.rpm
Next, Install the TeamViewer package using dnf
the command-line tool:
sudo dnf install teamviewer.x86_64.rpm
Step 3. Accessing TeamViewer on AlmaLinux.
Once successfully installed, there are two ways you can launch the tool. Go to the Application launcher, search for the tool, and click to run the same when its icon appears or is accessed from CLI:
teamviewer
When TeamViewer launches for the first time, you’ll be presented with the End User License Agreement (EULA). Read through it and accept if you agree to the terms.
You’ll then have the option to create a new TeamViewer account or sign in to an existing one. While it’s not mandatory to have an account for basic use, creating one allows you to manage your devices, set up easy access, and use additional features.
Once you’re past the initial setup, you’ll see the main TeamViewer interface. Take note of your TeamViewer ID and password, which are displayed prominently. These are what you’ll use to allow others to connect to your computer remotely.
Congratulations! You have successfully installed TeamViewer. Thanks for using this tutorial for installing TeamViewer remote desktop access on your AlmaLinux 8 system. For additional help or useful information, we recommend you check the official TeamViewer website.
