In this tutorial, we will show you how to install Tor Browser on Linux Mint 20. For those of you who didn’t know, Tor Browser is an open network and free web browser that helps users to defend against traffic analysis, a type of network surveillance that threatens personal privacy and freedom, confidential business relationships, activities, and state security.

The installation is quite simple and assumes you are running in the root account, if not you may need to add ‘sudo‘ to the commands to get root privileges.   • A server running one of the following operating systems: Linux Mint 20 (Ulyana).

sudo apt update
sudo apt install software-properties-common

tar -xvf tor-browser-linux64-10.5.2_en-US.tar.xz

Step 3. Create a Desktop shortcut for Tor.

nano ~/Desktop/Tor-browser.desktop

Add the following line:

[Desktop Entry]
Name=Tor Browser

After that, make the shortcut executable. You will see a shortcut on your desktop, right-click on that, and select Properties. Then under the Permissions Tab, check the box given for “Allow executing file as program” and then Close it.

Step 4. Accessing the Tor Browser on Linux Mint.

Once successfully installed, now simply double-click on the Desktop shortcut of Tor Browser whenever you want to use it.
