How To Install Git on Manjaro 20

Install Git on Manjaro 20

In this tutorial, we will show you how to install Git on Manjaro 20. For those of you who didn’t know, Git is a distributed version control system. Git is free software designed to handle everything from small to very large projects with speed and efficiency. It can be easy to learn and used for tracking changes in source code during software development. Git has the features of data integrity, non-linear workflows, and fast performance.

This article assumes you have at least basic knowledge of Linux, know how to use the shell, and most importantly, you host your site on your own VPS. The installation is quite simple and assumes you are running in the root account, if not you may need to add ‘sudo‘ to the commands to get root privileges. I will show you the step-by-step installation of Git on a Manjaro 20 (Nibia).

Prerequisites

  • A server running one of the following operating systems: Manjaro 20.
  • It’s recommended that you use a fresh OS install to prevent any potential issues.
  • SSH access to the server (or just open Terminal if you’re on a desktop).
  • A non-root sudo user or access to the root user. We recommend acting as a non-root sudo user, however, as you can harm your system if you’re not careful when acting as the root.

Step 3. Setting Up Git.

Now set the global username for Git configuration:

git config --global user.name "your_user_name"

Then, set the global email for Git configuration:

git config --global user.email "your_user_name@domain_name.com"

You can also change the configurations by editing the .gitconfig file. Type the following command to edit the gitconfig file:

nano ~/.gitconfig

Edit the above file by setting Name and Email as given below:

[user]
        email = your_user_name@domain_name.com
        name = your_user_name

Congratulations! You have successfully installed Git. Thanks for using this tutorial for installing the latest version of Git on the Manjaro system. For additional help or useful information, we recommend you check the official Git website.
