In this tutorial, we will show you how to install Microsoft Teams on CentOS 8. For those of you who didn’t know, Microsoft Teams is a communication platform used for Chat, Calling, Meetings, and Collaboration. Generally, it is used by companies and individuals working on projects. Microsoft Teams is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux operating systems available now.

This article assumes you have at least basic knowledge of Linux, know how to use the shell, and most importantly, you host your site on your own VPS. The installation is quite simple and assumes you are running in the root account, if not you may need to add ‘sudo‘ to the commands to get root privileges. I will show you through the step-by-step installation of the Microsoft Teams on a CentOS 8.

Prerequisites

  • A server running one of the following operating systems: CentOS 8.
  • It’s recommended that you use a fresh OS install to prevent any potential issues.
  • A non-root sudo user or access to the root user. We recommend acting as a non-root sudo user, however, as you can harm your system if you’re not careful when acting as the root.

Install Microsoft Teams on CentOS 8

Step 1. First, let’s start by ensuring your system is up-to-date.

sudo dnf update
sudo dnf install wget

Step 2. Installing Microsoft Teams on CentOS 8.

By default, Microsoft Teams Linux packages are not available in the CentOS 8 repositories. You will need to download the packages RPM With requests wget command:

wget https://packages.microsoft.com/yumrepos/ms-teams/teams-1.4.00.7556-1.x86_64.rpm

After the package is downloaded, install the downloaded package using the following command:

sudo dnf install teams-1.4.00.7556-1.x86_64.rpm

Step 3. Accessing Microsoft Teams on CentOS.

Once successfully install Microsoft Teams, you can simply go to the application menu and search for “Microsoft Teams.” launch the chat app, and enter the email ID which you have used to create a Microsoft account.
