In this tutorial, we will show you how to install WineHQ on AlmaLinux 8. Install WineHQ on AlmaLinux 8
Step 1. First, let’s start by ensuring your system is up-to-date.
sudo dnf update sudo dnf install epel-release
Step 2. Installing Development Tools and Other Dependencies Packages.
Run the following command to install the Development tools packages:
sudo dnf config-manager --set-enabled powertools sudo dnf groupinstall 'Development Tools'
Step 3. Installing WineHQ on AlmaLinux 8.
Now we download the latest WineHQ installer from the official website:
Next, extract and compile the WineHQ code on the system:
tar xvf wine-*.tar.xz
After that, compile the installer using the following commands below:
cd wine-*/ ./configure --enable-win64 make sudo make install
To confirm that it configured on the system successfully, let’s check its version:
Step 3. How to Use Wine to Run Windows Apps & Games.
To start the Wine program, you must give the full path to the .exe program. For example, we will start the notepad.exe program through wine.
