In this tutorial, we will show you how to install and configure Zend Framework on your CentOS 6. For those of you who didn’t know, Zend Framework is an open-source, object-oriented web application framework for PHP. The framework is modular, extensible, and highly secure and that is why it is used by many developers.
This article assumes you have at least basic knowledge of Linux, know how to use the shell, and most importantly, you host your site on your own VPS. The installation is quite simple. I will show you the step-by-step installation of Zend Framework on the CentOS 6 server.
Prerequisites
- A server running one of the following operating systems: CentOS 6.
- It’s recommended that you use a fresh OS install to prevent any potential issues.
- SSH access to the server (or just open Terminal if you’re on a desktop).
- An active internet connection. You’ll need an internet connection to download the necessary packages and dependencies for Zend Framework.
- A
non-root sudo useror access to theroot user. We recommend acting as anon-root sudo user, however, as you can harm your system if you’re not careful when acting as the root.
Install Zend Framework on CentOS 6
Step 1. First, you need to enable the EPEL repository on your system. You don’t need to configure this repository manually in your yum. Instead, download the following package and install it, which will enable the EPEL repository on your system.
- CentOS 6 64 Bit
## RHEL/CentOS 6 64-Bit ## # wget http://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/6/x86_64/epel-release-6-8.noarch.rpm # rpm -ivh epel-release-6-8.noarch.rpm
- CentOS 6 32 Bit
## RHEL/CentOS 6 32-Bit ## # wget http://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/6/i386/epel-release-6-8.noarch.rpm # rpm -ivh epel-release-6-8.noarch.rpm
Step 2. Install LAMP server.
A CentOS 6 LAMP server is required. If you do not have LAMP installed, you can follow our guide here.
Step 3. Install Zend framework.
Execute the following command in order to install the Zend framework on your server:
yum - y update yum --enablerepo=epel install php-ZendFramework
Once installed, navigate to your server’s directory root and create your first project:
cd /var/www/html zf create project idroot
If you get any error message included in the above message, you are required to install PHPUnit. Install PHPUnit by issuing the following command:
yum install php-pear-PHPUnit
Then, navigate to the /var/www/YourFirstProject/library/ directory and create a symbolic link to the library directory using the following commands:
cd /var/www/idroot/library/ ln -s /usr/share/php/Zend .
Step 4. Configure Apache with Zend Project.
Now you are required to configure apache to access your project in a web browser. It required setting the document root to /var/www/html/idroot/public a directory. Use below minimum configuration of apache to do it:
< VirtualHost *:80 > ServerAdmin webmaster@idroot.us ServerName zend.idroot.us DocumentRoot /var/www/html/idroot/public < /VirtualHost>
Save and close the file once you are done. Restart the Apache service for the changes to take effect:
service httpd restart
Step 5. Access Zend Framework Web UI.
Zend Framework will be available on HTTP port 80 by default. Open your favorite browser and navigate to http://your-domain.com or http://server-ip. If you are using a firewall, please open port 80 to enable access to the control panel.
