In this tutorial we will show you how to install and configuration of Bludit CMS on your Ubuntu 16.04 server. For those of you who didn’t know, Bludit is a simple web application to make your own blog or site in seconds, it’s completly free and open source. Bludit uses flat-files (text files in JSON format) to store the posts and pages, you don’t need to install or configure a database.

This article assumes you have at least basic knowledge of linux, know how to use the shell, and most importantly, you host your site on your own VPS. The installation is quite simple and assumes you are running in the root account, if not you may need to add ‘sudo’ to the commands to get root privileges. I will show you through the step by step installation Bludit CMS on a Ubuntu 16.04 (Xenial Xerus) server.

Install Bludit CMS on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

Step 1. First make sure that all your system packages are up-to-date by running these following apt-get commands in the terminal.

Step 2. Install LAMP (Linux, Apache, MariaDB and PHP) server.

First thing to do is to go to Bludit CMS’s download page and download the latest stable version of Bludit, At the moment of writing this article it is version 1.4:

Unpack the Bludit archive to the document root directory on your server:

Create a new virtual host directive in Apache. For example, create a new Apache configuration file named ‘bludit.conf’ on your virtual server:

Step 5. Accessing Bludit Content Management System.

Bludit CMS will be available on HTTP port 80 by default. Open your favorite browser and navigate to or http://server-ip/bludit and complete the required the steps to finish the installation. The default username admin and password admin. If you are using a firewall, please open port 80 to enable access to the control panel.
