How To Install XCache on Ubuntu 15.04

Install XCache on Ubuntu 15.04

In this tutorial, we will show you how to install and configuration of XCache on your Ubuntu 15.04. For those of you who didn’t know, XCache is an open-source opcode cacher, which means that it accelerates the performance of PHP on servers. It optimizes performance by removing the compilation time of PHP scripts by caching the compiled state of PHP scripts into the shm (RAM) and uses the compiled version straight from the RAM. This will increase the rate of page generation time by up to 5 times as it also optimizes many other aspects of PHP scripts and reduces server load.

This article assumes you have at least basic knowledge of Linux, know how to use the shell, and most importantly, you host your site on your own VPS. The installation is quite simple. I will show you the step-by-step installation XCache on Ubuntu 15.04 server.

Prerequisites

  • A server running one of the following operating systems: Ubuntu15.04, and any other Debian-based distribution.
  • It’s recommended that you use a fresh OS install to prevent any potential issues.
  • SSH access to the server (or just open Terminal if you’re on a desktop).
  • A non-root sudo user or access to the root user. We recommend acting as a non-root sudo user, however, as you can harm your system if you’re not careful when acting as the root.

Install XCache on Ubuntu 15.04

Step 1. First of all, make sure that all packages are up to date.

apt-get update

Step 2. install XCache.

Installing XCache is as simple as running just one command:

apt-get install php5-xcache

Now verify that the extension is available by using the following command:

php -m | grep XCache

Your result should be similar to:

XCache
XCache Cacher
XCache Coverager
XCache Optimizer
XCache
XCache Cacher
XCache Coverager
XCache Optimizer

At this point, xCache should be successfully installed on your server. You can confirm that by executing the following command:

### php -v
