How To Install Deluge on CentOS 6

In this tutorial, we will show you how to install and configuration of Deluge on CentOS 6.  For those of you who didn’t know, Deluge is a popular multi-platform BitTorrent client often used to provide torrenting / seedbox functionality on Linux servers. Like rTorrent, deluge uses libtorrent as its backend. Supported by the daemon-service, awesome interface, and great plugin support, Deluge surpasses Transmission and rTorrent for functionality.

This article assumes you have at least basic knowledge of Linux, know how to use the shell, and most importantly, you host your site on your own VPS. The installation is quite simple. I will show you through the step-by-step installation deluge BitTorrent client on CentOS 6.

Prerequisites

• A server running one of the following operating systems: CentOS 6.
• It’s recommended that you use a fresh OS install to prevent any potential issues.
• SSH access to the server (or just open Terminal if you’re on a desktop).
• A non-root sudo user or access to the root user. We recommend acting as a non-root sudo user, however, as you can harm your system if you’re not careful when acting as the root.

Install Deluge on CentOS 6

Step 1. Install Deluge from repositories.

Deluge is not available on the primary repo, we need to add a Linux tech repo to our repo library:

nano /etc/yum.repos.d/linuxtech.repo

and paste the following:

name=LinuxTECH
baseurl=http://pkgrepo.linuxtech.net/el6/release/
enabled=1
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=http://pkgrepo.linuxtech.net/el6/release/RPM-GPG-KEY-LinuxTECH.NET

Next, of all make sure that all packages are up to date:

yum update

Step 2. Install Deluge on CentOS 6.

Now we can install deluge and all necessities with Yum:

yum install deluge-common deluge-web deluge-images deluge-daemon

Step 3. Configure Deluge.

First check if deluge user already exists, if not add it:

useradd --system --home /var/lib/deluge deluge

Next, we need to edit some lines in Deluge init script:

nano /etc/init.d/deluge-daemon

find this line:

prog2=deluge
daemon --user deluge "$prog2 --ui web >/dev/null 2>&1 &"
##change it into##

prog2=deluge-web
daemon --user deluge "$prog2 >/dev/null 2>&1 &"

Start the Deluge service:

service deluge-daemon restart
chkconfig deluge-daemon on

Step 3. Accessing Deluge.

Deluge will be available on HTTP port 8112 by default. Open your favorite browser and navigate to http://yourdomain.com:8112 or http://your-server-ip:8112.  The default password for deluge is a deluge, better change it when you are first to log in.
